Laney Van: Flagstaff, Arizona, USA
Tell us about yourself!
Hello, my name is Laney! I’ve lived in Flagstaff for 6 or 7 months, and am currently a student at Northern Arizona University. I like to hike, snowboard, hang out with friends, and take long walks to Target to buy things that I don’t need.
What makes your city special?
Everyone in Flagstaff is good spirited. The people here are friendly and willing to assist you with anything you need! This little mountain town has earned my heart with it’s crisp, chilly air, beautiful fall colors, thousands of frozen snowflakes, and especially those few nice, sunny days.
Have you found any “hidden gems” in your city?
There is a quaint little tea shop downtown called Steep that I love. They serve the best tea I’ve ever had in my entire life, and the price is very reasonable. The atmosphere is so peaceful that I could honestly live there.
Where is the most fun/popular place to be?
I spend a lot of my time here on campus at Northern Arizona University, and many students love to spend time at the North Quad. It’s the perfect place to hang out in a hammock all day and laze around with your friends. Isn’t that the best kind of day?
Where do you go to enjoy nature in your city? Any specific outdoor activities you would recommend?
Flagstaff has tons of varied hiking trails, for both the amateur and experienced hiker. I would recommend Slate Mountain trail for a slow, scenic walk lined with beautiful flowers. The Kachina trail is also amazing. It’s a fairly easy hike and is known for amazingly bright yellow aspen. You can also hit the slopes during the winter months if you drive 20 minutes north.
Where can you get the best coffee in your town?
The best coffee in Flagstaff by far can be found at Macy's. The atmosphere and decor make this such an adorable shop. Plus, the coffee is so rich and unique. They have delectable cups such as Cafe A la San Francisco, which is topped with sprinkled chocolate. The Macy's Special is also awesome, which is a mix of espresso and hot chocolate topped with real whipped cream. Even the hot chocolate itself is to die for!
What is your most memorable moment since coming to your city?
My first day snowboarding here was the most memorable for me. I’d never done it before, and I instantly fell head over heels in love.
